Classic Car News: Nostalgia For England Squad As They Reflect On The Classic Era

Perhaps now is a good time for the England team to take a trip down memory lane and experience the sweet smell of success, just like the England squad of 1966 did. The day England won the world cup and became football legends was on the 30th July 1966, when the team defeated West Germany 4-2. The game has changed considerably since the early days, for a start we haven't won the world cup since, but also winning isn't the only highlight in a footballer's career.

Exotic cars are one of the modern day incentives for an up and coming football star, and they seem to go through their cars as quickly as their football shirts. According to the Auto Trader website, "England and Bolton Wanderers star Zat Knight is putting his stunning Audi R8 up for sale". The 2008 FSI Quattro model packs an amazing "420bhp and 4.2 litre V8 engine, which is capable of sprinting from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds" if only the England player was as quick on the pitch as off it.

The 1966 World Cup saw Geoff Hurst make history as the only player to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final, scoring 3 of the 4 goals hopefully a player such as Wayne Rooney will feel like repeating the feat this year. You can imagine this sporting legend driving home in a classic Jaguar XJ6 after bringing victory to England, but if he hadn't triumphed he might have had to hide his face in shame in a Triumph Herald or Morris Minor all British motors of course.

Before the hype of this year's World Cup, Rooney put his 2006 Aston Martin Vanquish up for sale, which ironically was a gift before the 2006 World Cup. Maybe it's time to splash all that cash on something vintage, and bring back a piece of motoring history as well as World Cup history.
