subject: Why Use Led Grow Lights To Grow Plants Inside [print this page]

LED grow lights are highly mobile and versatile growing solutions for indoor growing of plant life. They are an efficient, eco friendly way for growing plants indoors. If you've set up or plan to set up an greenhouse or other style of indoor growing system, LED lights may be the way to go.

The lights work by producing the light that plants need to grow. In regular natural light, there are many different parts of light that come in through the spectrum. Only a small part of that spectrum is used by plants in their photosynthesis process that helps them in their growing. LED bulbs capitalize on this by only using the light the plants actually need, instead of simply bombarding them with the entire range of colors.

Because of the fact that these lights are low wattage, you will be able to save a huge amount of energy. This results in a fair amount of money saved each month, which can add up pretty quickly when using a lot of lights. Because they use less energy they are also better for the environment than some other styles of lights.

These lights last a lot longer than average types of lighting as well. Some brands claim to be able to last up to 50,000 hours of use. That means that they can last for over seven years if they are used eighteen hours a day.

Throughout the last few decades indoor growing has received a sort of stigma for its association with the growth of marijuana and other illegal plants. Most indoor growers, though, want only to cultivate perfectly legal plants inside. There is no way to control what is going to happen when you have a plant outside, from weather to animals to other humans, so there is a real need to have a controlled environment for growing pretty much anything.

LED light, because it is lower wattage, is also a lot cooler to the touch. This is great for growing as it won't burn plants that are too fragile to be under the brighter lights, meaning that you don't need to spate plants out as much as you would with other types of lighting.

Due to LED grow lights ability to stay cooler, the need for high levels of air conditioning and ventilation are fairly limited. Air conditioning takes a lot of energy as well. As do most fans that are run to keep things from getting to warm. Granted they will still likely need to be used in a warm green house environment, but even using them a third less will save tons of money and valuable natural resources.
