subject: Samsung Nexus S Offers Stiff Competition To Competitors [print this page] It has become official and the new Google phone, Samsung Nexus S is out now. Google only recently announced that this phone would be launched sooner than expected. The Samsung Nexus S is one of the most awaited phones of recent times and one has to take a look at the previous model, Nexus One to know why this phone has been receiving such a lot of attention from the public and media alike. Google has announced that this phone will be made in collaboration with Samsung and it is really a milestone for the company.
Also, unveiled by the company was the phones impressive specifications list, which includes the likes of the 4 inch touch screen display amongst many others. This is no normal display as it is a WVGA Super AMOLED screen that has received a lot of success in Samsung phones. It is protected with the anti-fingerprint coating and from the profile, the phone looks a little bit curvy and this adds to the appeal of the phone as it is a deviation from the normal candy bar phones, which have no style and elegance to them. It is not just the screen that is impressive with this phone as it has a 1.2 GHz Hummingbird processor, which is also a deviation from the usual 1 GHz Snapdragon processor that is being used in most smartphones today. Even though the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor is very powerful enough to run the operating system, Google and Samsung have obviously felt that they could do with even more power.
Why do they need more power? It is because the phone runs on the new 2.3 Android operating system, which is called the Gingerbread operating system. The new operating system has a number of improvements over the previous versions and those who are used to working with the 2.2 version of Android will certainly appreciate it more than the new users. The phone packs in 512 MB of RAM and one can easily say that this humongous specification could be enough for running the new operating system. The phone has 16 GB of internal storage. However, Google has failed to comment on whether the phone will support additional memory using extra memory cards.
With such an impressive feature list, you would expect this phone to be lacking in some other feature so that it can keep the costs low. And that cost-cutting exercise is clearly evident in the five megapixel camera, which is not quite as powerful as the cameras found on the likes of the Nokia N8 and HTC Desire HD. However, even this camera can support HD video recording, which at least goes to some lengths to satisfy those who want their mobile phone cameras to be the best. Another obvious feature that is lacking in the phone is the FM radio, but the presence of a large amount of memory and an impressive media player eliminates the need for having one.
