subject: Shed Planning Basics - Why Do It Yourself Shed Plans Are Important [print this page]

Do you remember what it felt like when you first moved in to your brand new home or apartment? If you are like me, the first three things that will instantly pop up in your head are space, space, and lots of space!

But as you know, time changes things. We tend to get in the habit of collecting "very important" stuff during our lifetime... stuff that if we're not aware of, could pile up in a hurry and make our once spacious estate, look like one of the military barracks from a war film.

Imagine what it would be like to finally live in your place, junk free, with all the extra mementos and unnecessary stuff securely stored in a safer place. No more tripping on old toys that your 4 year old leaves on the hallway, or quarrelling with your spouse on where to place your in-laws' memorabilia (why keep it at your home in the first place?)

If you are beginning to have a feel of what it's like to have your own separate space for "all the rest of your things" I'm sure you'll agree that you need to follow a tried and proven plan before you dive in head first and start building a place for your stuff, I'm a "do it yourself" kind of guy but only recently did I take advantage of using professionally designed building plans which has made a huge impact in not only cutting costs, but saving a whole lot of time to complete my projects. One of my last and wisest investments was in do it yourself shed plans.

Take my example. I knew I wanted to build a storage shed but my problem was I didn't know where and how to exactly begin. Good thing I went online and learned how crucial a good solid foundation was and that I probably would need a building permit. Incidentally, I stumbled onto a set of plans that seemed to fit the bill and what I liked most about them was they came with the complete list of materials down to the last nail!

Details are important. To find that they also included lumber cut sizes so I could ensure that I bought the right amount of wood was a relief! I had it cut to the right sizes and it was a beauty to have everything fit in its place.

A word of caution though. Not all plans come like this so make sure you get some that do most free plans are just drawings and you kind of have to guess on the material list yourself which could be costly. Also, coming up with your own shed plans are difficult and time consuming and you may not do it the right way. The chances of you getting it right the first time are just not in your favor.

Whereas investing a few bucks in the design aspects of your shed is a wise thing to do. It will no doubt, save you money when it comes time to build it, both in material cost and your actual labor time.

Yes, I'm a "do it yourselfer", but you're obviously intelligent enough to know that I don't do these things alone. A set of professionally designed blueprints is the secret to breezing through your project with utmost convenience and ease. I bet you will use these plans to your advantage and not only impress your wife and kids, but your neigbors and in-laws as well!
