You go all spring and summer and your skin stays nice and gives you no trouble, you may even have a tan to show off. Then the cold months of winter arrives and you start feeling a little itchy on one of your upper arms, or you shoulder, or some other body part. You rub or scratch the itchy area, and then you realize that you have a patch of very dry skin there.
I discovered that just about everyone gets dry skin, on one or more body parts in the winter time. I will share a few of these things with you, so you may find that one of these causes, is what is giving you dry skin during the winter.
1. Low Humidity - This is perhaps the number one reason that most people develop dry skin during the winter months. The winter air is very dry, and there is very little humidity. This dry air removes the moisture out of the skin, and can cause it to become dry, red, itchy, and even scaly. You can buy creams and lotions to rub into these areas, to help restore the moisture. Also, you may wish to purchase a humidifier for your own, to help keep the humidity level up, with moisture in the air.
2. Soap - If you develop dry skin, don't use soap on them areas, when you shower or bathe. Although, there are soaps that contain oils, and are more gently then other brands, all soaks dry the skin, some just cause it to dry out more then others. Leave these areas of the body free from using the bar soap, and just gently clean them by patting with a wet washcloth when you shower or bathe, and avoid rubbing or scrubbing these areas with the washcloth.
3. Outside - Avoid the outside as much as possible in the very cold months of winter, as the dry air outside is even worse then the air inside, in the winter. If you notice that the areas where you develop dry skin, are exposed directly to the air, try covering them areas with scarves, hats, gloves and other garments, to protect against drying out.
The above, things are just a few of the things I have discovered that can cause dry skin. I hope this article has helped you, and maybe you will have a lot less dry skin during the cold, winter months. If you start getting dry skin suddenly, should would be wise to make an appointment to a doctor, because some dry skin can be a sign of an infection or disease, it's better to be safe and get ahead of the condition earlier, then being sorry later.
