I thought I had found the ideal machine to play my Region 2/PAL DVDs, but it has one irritating "habit." Most of the time when you press PLAY, a blue stripe stays at the top of the screen and won't go away. One of the other reviewers found a relatively simple cure (quickly pressing either FF or REW before pressing PLAY again), but still, it is annoying that such a trick is necessary. If it weren't for that, I would have given it a straight 5 stars. I almost ordered two identical units at one time, and now I am glad I did not. But actually it is a shame because I like everything else about it.
My evaluation of the battery life is, of course, not accurate, since I have only had the Pioneer for a few weeks.

When I first plugged in this DVD player and played a DVD I was disappointed by the picture quality, which was worse than its predecessor -- my cheaper Cyberhome DVD player. But then it occurred to me that the DVD player may deliver its best picture quality over the HDMI cable. So I sauntered down to my local department store, picked up the funny looking cable, installed it, and lo-and-behold the picture quality is AMAZING for regular DVDs and video files.
That's the other major plus here: I can download a movie, drop it on my USB jump drive, plug the jump drive into the front of my DVD player, and play the files. It's played every AVI I've thrown at it so far DivX and XviD -- with great picture quality!
Menus are easy to navigate, remote is nice and simple, and the player's slim-line profile and sleek black look blends well with my receiver unit.
This DVD player is everything Pioneer advertises.

With so many formats, it is a good product, the DVD alos came with the unlock region codes, I've tested it with many features, great, the only thing is not with the DVR, cannot record, with the cost, you get your money worth, I'm an electrical engineer, and I like it.
I have not try the USB port yet!

It play code 3 Pal disc very well. Video output very good.
The most Annoying is the blue bar (play) remain on screen when playing the movie. You have to press Pause or Fast Forward then press play again to make this Annoying blue bar disappear. I deduct 2 stars because of this Annoying flaw.
You can goto setup and turn off the Display function and this Annoying blue bar won't appear on screen but then you can not view sub-title and audio track selection on screen.
The USB port will play divx, wmv files but not the MKV or Mpeg 4. It will read my jump drive but not the WD and segate esternal hard drive.
