subject: The Disappointment When The In Flight Entertainment Is Repeated [print this page]

In flight entertainment has really revolutionized air travel. Before you had to rely on books and boring board games to kept your from getting, well, bored, but now you can often choose from dozens of movies and enjoy your flight, only there's one problem.

Not all airlines have upgraded their planes to the latest in flight entertainment technology. And in fact, some still show a single movie to all their passengers. Of course, they want to keep passengers happy and the price of the ticket reflects exactly what sort of facilities the flight will have, so you shouldn't expect to have something serious to entertain you if you don't pay for it. But when you show a single film on a plane, or they show a number of films, you run into a serious problem. For example, taking return flights from Denver to Chicago you may find that you get to see some brand new releases on the outward journey.

But then, when you get back to the airport and on the plane for the final journey you might have the bad luck of discovering that they are showing the exact same films. This is the problem when you don't have your own in flight entertainment system in the back of the seat in front of you. Of course, airline do not show films only once, but it's incredibly annoying when you settle in for flights from Phoenix to San Jose or flights from London to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria depart and you find that you've seen the film already.

I try to stop the potential for this sort of disappointment by taking a number of other entertainment devices. A laptop, e-reader, and iPod Touch is guaranteed to be enough entertainment to keep you entertained for the duration of the flight.
