subject: Something bigger than yourself? [print this page] Something bigger than yourself? Something bigger than yourself?
A mostinteresting question was asked of me and myfriends today. Quote, "
So here is a thought...does EVERYONE feel alive when they are singing or playing or listening to music...that special feel like you are connected with something bigger than yourself? Or is that some weird thing that only music people experience?
My first melody
I rememberwhen Iwas somewhere around 12 years old when I first picked up a guitar and started to play. I'm really not exaggerating when I say "started to play". I felt as if I had found something new. I picked up the old six stringacoustic guitar (a Martin or an Epiphone maybe), placed accross my lap andI gently plucked the strings one at a time... E-A-D-G-B-E.
That's all it took for me, Standard-Tuning, Open-String and I was hooked for life!
There IS something inside I believe that music makes a connection to what we cannot see, but what we feel and justknow is there. Whether you have the gift of playing, singing, or listening; it's all the same.
That day, I had found something (an acoustic guitar) and also found something about me (an ability to play) that has turned to be my life's passion. Whether it would be with family and friends or in a room, with the door closed, all alone, I can play to the one who has given me this gift of music to share with Him. You see, it doesn't need to be a complex musical composition, with every detail, but sometimes an open, standard-tuning chord at just the right touch can be a melody to play and a melody to sing and a melody to hear.
Not only for the musical people to experience, but for anyone who feels a special connection to something bigger than themselves!
