subject: Isn't It Annoying That You Can't Fast Forward On The Airplane Movies. [print this page] In flight entertainment systems seem to be designed by four year olds, or perhaps by elderly designers who have absolutely no idea what good user experience looks like. It makes flight entertainment and incredibly infuriating prospects considering some of the more fatal flaws of the system.
I am very thankful for the in flight entertainment system. It is great that we can watch dozens of movies on flights that have television in the back of seats. And I love being able to discover new TV shows while on flights. But the way that these in flight entertainment systems are designed is awful and they can make flights from Atlanta to Seattle an awful experience.
The most frustrating thing is how regularly these systems crash. This completely loses your place in a movie or television show, and here's the kicker: you can't fast forward or rewind on in most in flight entertainment systems. I don't know if this is something that's due to licensing restrictions or because someone who is utterly incapable designed the system, but it seems crazy that you can't change your position in the movie or show.
Considering you regularly it crashes, this has ruined flights, and when you are getting return flights from Washington to Madrid, constant problems with the systems can make your journey a misery. There is a system that's meant to entertain you but it ends up being something that makes you resent the air line. Next time I book flights from Chicago to Cabo San LucasI'm bring my computer so that I can watch my own DVDs and TV shows, and rewind and fast forward when I like. If airlines really want to make airtravel a more enjoyable experience, they really need to start focusing on the things like this and get the little things right. Everything else will fall into place.
