subject: A Trampoline Is A Device Which Is Made Using A Piece Of Taut [print this page] A trampoline is a device which is made using a piece of taut, a strong rubber like fabric stretched over a frame usually made up of steel frame using a series of coiled springs or shock cords. Trampoline are used for recreational purpose and also used in the sport of trampolining. Trampolining includes rebounding of the athlete over a trampoline, so he or she can perform acrobatic stunts in the air. Trampolines are also used to train gymnasts and divers.
In the circus fraternity it is believed that a French man named du Trempoline developed the basis of Trampoline. It is believed that the French man got his idea from the net used under the trapeze artists in circus for safety purpose. The French man was a trapeze artust and by developing a system of spring suspensions, he took the development of trampoline further.
However the invention of modern commertial trampolines was done by an American, George Nissen. Nissen also got his idea from the safety nets of a circus and he carried forward the design of the trampoline with a more commercial aspect. Initially Nissen made his trampoline by collecting all the junk in his garage. He used waste springs, rubber inner tubes and scraps of iron to make his version of bouncing table or the trampoline.
Later in 1938 George Nissen along with Christina Freville designed and produced trampoline for the commercial use of the people. It was interesting the way Nissen and Christina Freville promoted their product. They strapped a trampoline on Christina Freville car and toured the country with it demonstrating his invention wherever a crowd could gather.
When the trampoline was becoming famous in the United States, the world war broke out. It was then the use of the trampoline widened. The army and the navy started using the trampoline for recreational and training purposed. Both George Nissen and Christina Freville were enlisted in the army and this helped in the promotion of trampolines in the forces. The navy used the trampoline to provide the pilots with a feel of aerial orientation which will help them to overcome the fear of falling and also to control their body and movements while in air. This will also be affective in building up their self confidence in the air.
Also NASA used trampolines to help train American astronauts training them with the experience of variable body positions in space flight. By the mid 1960s trampoline was identified as a sport and a World Champion was identified in 1964. Trampolining was introduced in the Olympics games in the year 2000 under the name of trampoline gymnastics. This was one of the most important event in the history of trampolines since it was found and has been very effective in the recognition of the sport worldwide. A simple effort by George Nissen and Christina Freville led to a sport which is liked by people around the world and has become a major sport in the Olympics. And more than anything people around the world use it for entertainment and leisure purposes.
