subject: Pros And Cons Related To The Best Ways To Sell Games [print this page]

People who love to play video games understand the importance of being able to sell games when they've finished playing them. Everyone has their favorites and we often tend to keep those titles for a longer period of time because the replay is just as entertaining as the first time. Whether it's the story line, graphics or something else that keeps our attention, we all decide never to sell specific titles from our collection.

Other titles just don't keep our attention as well as our long-time favorites. Let's take a look at three options to sell games: auction sites, trade or pawn stores, and online stores. Each option has specific pros and cons directly related to using their service. Choosing the one that works best for your situation is as simple as weighing the pros and cons.

Auction Websites

Pros: Most auction websites are very user friendly. Photos allow the buyer to see exactly what they're getting. Auctions create competition for most items; competition works to drive up the price.

Cons: Competition and continually being undercut. Fees charged by the auction company may include listing fees as well as image hosting fees. Miscalculating shipping costs can become very expensive and negate the purpose. Keeping individual auctions updated. Shipping to multiple people every time auctions end may become bothersome depending on how many individual auctions you have up simultaneously.

Trade Stores

Pros: The ability to trade or earn in-store credit when you bring in a used title can really add up over time. You reduce the clutter of your entertainment area while earning credit toward a new great game. Most stores that offer trades or in-store credit allow you to interchange titles at any time.

Cons: All titles are not created equal. Some are simply more popular than others. There may be times the store doesn't want or need what you're looking to trade.

Online Stores

Pros: Receive great price for used games. Sell games directly to a company that specializes in reselling used titles. Shipping costs are reimbursed. Many stores buy used consoles as well. You may also buy used games or consoles at deep discounts.

Cons: Very few people name specific cons related to selling to online stores, other than the possibility of being cheated. A reputable store removes that issue.

Trade Stores and Online Stores

Many trade, pawn or online stores also have a physical location. You may be able to avoid shipping costs altogether by taking your used items to them instead of shipping them. Ask around and see how your friends keep their collections new and exciting, you may be surprised.

Used Video Games and Consoles

Pros and cons in each area may make you second guess the best way to sell games and consoles. Weigh all of the pros and cons to make the best decision as to how you want to sell games. Once you choose the method you want to use, you're on your way to clearing out the clutter and replacing already-played games with new releases.
