subject: Long Distant Grandmother [print this page] My grandmother started staying in a town side, a thumb area of Michigan. And in winters, Christmas time, I enjoyed staying with her as a young child. I used to stay in the city and loved the small town they lived in. grandma used to make exciting things for me. She would make little sandwiches and we used to have tea parties. We used to plant flowers together and carefully tend them. She used to make beautiful quilts for us, me and my brother. I still remember the small thimble she would use while doing her needle work. On one particular birthday when I was feeling upset and a lot older she made me special. She used to share all her anger and problems with me. She is one special lady in my life. I amaze myself wondering at the way the god sends a special gift of encouragement on our way at the right time. This yearly visit reduced a lot after I started going to college. Though I never wanted it to be this way but I just couldn't end up having to call her or visit her or be in touch. That used to make my mom a little angry but my dad used to understand seeing the schedule I was in. So to keep the connection alive, my granny started sending me gifts on eBay, on Christmas, thanksgiving, or any other day. And she used to be regular in it; rather I used to receive it 2 days before the day, despite of her health problems. That is the only way that we were still connected to it.
The last Christmas I received gift after a days from the eve. It was a little worrying but I couldn't resist meeting her, so the next week, I dropped off at her house with a surprise. It was a sigh of relief seeing her completely fine. So I asked her in a very mild voice that what the reason of the delay is. There I got to know this huge story of her being completely hassled by the computer. Her computer stopped working a day before the Christmas Eve. So she called up the local repairman, from whom she got to know that there were some viruses in her system. And he also emphasized to send it back to them. They were supposed to take a week for repairing that old machine, which was completely unacceptable to her. So she refused them. All she was sad about now was that now she couldn't send us the gifts.
The same day while she was sulking over the machine, a post man came with a mail. He been the oldest postman in the town knew my granny pretty well. He couldn't see my granny all in tears. He then asked her to call a technical service provider who gives a remote tech support-iYogi. That was probably the best suggestion this old guy gave. He also provided her with the number". She called them, and in some seconds the call got connected to a technician whom she described to be a very soft spoken and well versed guy. He then probably took four to five hours to resolve her issue. She then quickly connected to eBay and found us two sweet little gifts.
This happened the last Christmas she spent with us. After a month she health completely deteriorated so we hospitalized her. After a week she left this earth for her new residence in heaven. I bid farewell to my loving Grandmother. How quickly life can change. We had tea just few months ago and now I miss her so much.
