subject: Great Gifts To Give To Runners [print this page]

If you're looking for a perfect gift to give to a runner, either for Birthday or Christmas it can be difficult to know what to buy. Discover some tips on what running related gear you can buy for your friend or loved one.

Whilst you might think that there isn't much that a runner might need, there are some great gifts that a runner would love to receive. For those who are looking for an expensive gift to give to a runner, then a sports watch is an excellent choice. Typically you would be looking for a watch that not only has a stop watch facility, but also a watch that has a HR monitor to keep track of heart rate, and also, more recently, GPS facilities to keep track of the distance run.

Entry to a race: if you can't think of a physical item to buy, or don't know the person's size exactly then a relatively low cost gift can be an entry to race. This can be quite good fun for a runner as they might get to challenge themselves over a new distance, or even do a race that they haven't done before. Having a race in your calendar coming up also provides great motivation.

One thing to avoid buying a runner is running shoes! Ideally runners should go to a specialist running shop to get shoes fitted professionally. So this is one gift that you should try to avoid. However, socks come in quite wide sizing options so are a great choice. Technical running socks are also quite expensive so will be a welcome gift.

Running accessories such as running bags and hydration sacks are also a great choice for runners who run for longer distances. Running bottles might be appropriate for those people who run shorter distances. Hydration is very important so all runners will want to take on board liquids on their runs. Other fabulous ideas for gifts for runnings are things such as magazine subscriptions, there are a number of specialist running magazines available.

Rain gear and night wear such as reflective clothing and accessories are also a brilliant choice for those hardened runners who run all year round and in any weather condition. As clothing tends to wear out quite quickly, runners typically cannot get enough clothes and equipment and even if they currently have lots of tops, base layers, rain jackets more are always welcomed.
