Well there are many things that are awesome in this life, and some things certainly can be described as "making life worth living!"
Here are just a few observations...
On a rainy day when the kids cannot go play outside, you gather them around the kitchen table and get out the paper and the finger paints, and have an afternoon of creating "works of art" that will be immortalized on the refrigerator door for 8 months, until one day someone slams the door, and the little magnet falls on the floor and breaks, and the piece of construction paper that the artwork was done on, falls and slides and gets into the cat's water dish, and then the wet paper is ruined and ready to be thrown out.
At least on this fun-filled day of creativity, the kids will love making finger paintings, and then the kitchen sink is right there for them to wash their hands thoroughly when done creating. Thank goodness for nice, big kitchen sinks and their warm running water!
You can also bake some wonderful homemade chocolate chip cookies, which are another of life's joys. The smell of the cookies coming from the kitchen, or more specifically the oven, will permeate the house. This almost seems to put most men and children into a trance! The thing about baking cookies, or anything, is that as soon as they are taken off of the cookie sheet and put somewhere to cool, it is a great idea to take those cookie sheets directly to the kitchen sink immediately, where you can wash, rinse, and dry them off, then put them away, because letting the cookies sheets sit around for hours, only makes clean up more difficult later on.
Sometimes in the summertime, the children love to go to the kitchen sink with small balloons and fill them with water, and then go outside and throw these water balloons at each other! This is always fun, no matter the age of the children, and you may even want to join in too! You can even catch them off guard by quietly sneaking into the bathroom and using the bathroom sink to fill the water balloons that you intend to use.
Actually, almost anything that can be filled with water in the kitchen sinkor bathroom sink seems like it can be a lot of fun in the heat of summer!
