Losing Your Stomach Fat: What You Need To Do

Losing your stomach fat is one of the most difficult tasks for those who are trying to trim down and lose some weight. This is typically because your body tends to burn the fat stored around the rest of your body before hitting the fat around our waists. The healthiest way to lose your stomach fat and to KEEP it off is to have and maintain a healthy diet over a longer period of time. Exercise does play an important role, but if you are serious about losing your stomach fat, you will need to start with your diet.

There are three main reasons why your body has stored fat around your waist. The most obvious reason is because of an overabundance of calories per day. If you are consuming more calories than your body burns, whether naturally or through workout routines, then your body will store those excess calories as fat. Eating late at night is another reason you may get a buildup, because your metabolism slows down when you become less active, and if you eat shortly before you go to bed, your body is not as able to burn those calories, thus resulting in more stored body fat. A lack of physical activity and exercise prevents you from being able to burn any excess calories you may consume on a day to day basis, so trying to walk a few days during the week will also help.

Now, on to the food you eat. Regardless of how you eat at the moment, ANYONE can change their diet. It is just a matter of discipline and sustainability. If you have the desire to make a change in your diet, then your next step is to find a diet plan that has sustainability. This can only come from starting small and working your way up. Remember, Rome was not built in a day (sorry for the clich). But it is very important to know, because if you try to make too big of a change in your diet right in the beginning, it will be harder for your body to get used to. You want to change your diet slowly, by making substitutions, rather than a complete meal makeover. That way, over time, you will not only have changed your diet to the way your body needs, you will also be able to stick with it, and enjoy yourself.

For example, many people like to start with substituting beverages. If you substitute a glass of water in place of a carbonated beverage, you are essentially cutting out approximately 100-150 calories from your diet. That is HUGE, and it was only one substitute. If you go out to eat a few times a week, cut one of those trips out of your diet. Try to purchase more raw foods, and substitute deli meat in place of pre-packaged processed meat. Lowering your sodium is a huge step in losing weight and trimming down.

Exercising is also a key in your diet plan for losing your stomach fat. Partnered with a great diet, exercising will not only allow you to begin burning that stomach fat, it also boosts your metabolism, which will make it even easier. You can start with walking for 20-30 minutes a few days a week. The more active your body becomes, the more fat it will burn naturally. As far as finding the right diet plan, there is no one plan that works for everyone. You need to find the one that fits your needs, with foods that are not only healthier, but ones that you will enjoy eating. Remember, one substitute at a time, and your change will come! You can do it!
