The Social Media Pool Party
I see it all the time, people sending me stuff on Social Media to sell me a widget or go to a seminar. This is a common problem and can be a great tool if used correctly. The thing is, most people have zero patience. They want to get on the site, find some friends (in a week) and blast away like telemarketers with a keyboard. THIS DOES NOT WORK. Social media is a tool that allows you to connect to people, one on one, in a public setting. You have to remember that you are still you. If you sell vacuums and get a job and throw your name on the product and piss everyone off on Facebook, they will not forget who you are. So, when you get a new job selling widgets somewhere else, they know not to connect with you.
Think long term please! This is not about a lead generation system, it is supposed to be the way people can look into your info and see if they want to be associated with you. Remember computers document everything, so it is not easy to forget, at all. DO NOT be the guy that goes to a networking event and opens his trench coat to show everyone the fake watches he has to sell. It is easier and less stressful to be the guy people want to talk to. People don't want to help salesmen, they want to help friends. Social Media sites out there can allow you to market all day, just know which one it is and respect those that are with you. If you really want to get something out of this world, yet alone social media, please try and help others and show support for them first. At the end of the day there are real people attached to those screens that speak to you.
The best way to describe social media is hosting a pool party. Before I go on here, think about that.. The person that throws the pool party always, gets the girl, closes a deal, and makes the introductions and so on, it is good to be the pool owner. I order to be a poll owner to have to first buy some land. Once you buy the land you have to dig a hole. After digging the hole you have to layer some sand and concrete. When this is done then you add water. Once the water is added you have to throw in some chemicals to make sure it is clean. Then, add people. Yet all the while you have to reach out to people and get to know them, build relationships make bonds and so on. Get it? Of course there will be some internet idiot that says I have an above ground pool, the drinks bring them there, or I can get strangers to come over with a cool pool I don't need relationships. If this is you, keep it to yourself, you are not my kind of person and you just answered that "am I using this thing right?" question in your head. Anyway, just a tip from The Wolf.
