subject: What Is The Best Value In Pepper Sprays [print this page]

Pepper sprays are part of the group of products called self defense products. They have a long track record of success with law enforcement agencies and military units for more than 30 years. Military units use tear gas and pepper spray for crowd control. Law enforcement officers use pepper sprays for criminal apprehension as part of their 'continuum of force'. My postal carrier Mike and all of his fellow postal carriers carry pepper spray as a defense against dog attacks.

Self defense products for civilian use are meant to give you time to get away from a potentially dangerous situation to seek help or just to get away. That time can be anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes for a stun gun to as much as 45 minutes for a pepper spray.

A pepper spray uses a derivative of cayenne pepper called oleoresin capsicum or OC for short. The usual concentration is 10 percent, although some can be as high as 18 percent for the wildfire brand. A shot in the face with pepper spray causes a great deal of pain swells the mucous membranes, which makes breathing difficult and swells the veins in the eyes causing the eyes to close.

Ask any law enforcement trainee or military recruit what pepper spray is like. They all have to be subjected to it so they know firsthand how nasty it is.

What is the best value in pepper sprays? In my humble opinion it is the pepper gun and here's why. First, it uses a unique delivery system using replaceable cartridges called 'bag in a can' technology. This new system allows the pepper spray to spray in a continuous fashion from any angle even when the gun is held upside down.

The replaceable cartridges hold enough OC in them to shoot seven 25 foot blasts. It comes with a water test cartridge so you can get used to shooting that distance, which is the furthest of any self defense product in the world. You can get refill cartridges of water or OC or a combination of both.

When are you getting one?

The best deals for pepper sprays are on the Internet for sure. There you can find an assortment of distributors. Look for one who does his business full time and can answer your questions before the sale. That way you will know he'll be there is you have a problem after the sale. Look for a distributor who is proud of his low prices. That is your assurance of getting the best deals on pepper sprays
