Do you want to have your own book listed on Amazon? You can. This is just one advantage of becoming self-published, while other people are waiting for their writing to be accepted by a publisher.
Since I became self-published in 2008, I have been able to begin developing exposure as an author. While other people who want to become authors are spending their time submitting their manuscripts to publishers, I have been able to focus on promotion. And instead of telling people that I have a desire to become an author, I can tell them that I AM an author. Doors of opportunity have opened up that otherwise would never have come about. I have had a book review in a local paper, appeared on a talk show, have had several speaking engagements, and got my book listed on Amazon.
Other advantages are due to POD, or print-on-demand publishing, which means that I can order as many books as I want. I will not end up with a whole garage full of books that I can't sell. However, it was pretty exciting the day a UPS truck rolled up in front of my house and delivered a box of bookswith my name on the front cover. If anyone suffers from low self-esteem that can take care of the problem.
At that time, I joined a very elite group of people known as "published authors", instead of getting rejection letters from publishers. I have an actual book to show people. And all of this happened for about the cost of a down payment on a car.
The main advantage of self-publishing is that a person has total control over seeing his or her dream in life become a reality. Rejection, be gone!
