subject: You Can Make Money Working Online Once You've Identified Your Perfect Market! [print this page]

When you want to make money working online, as an Internet marketer, an important point to remember is that 'the product is secondary to the market'. In other words, you need to identify your market first, find the product they really want and finally - give it to them!

When we say 'market' what we mean is a particular group of people that we can sell products to. The perfect market should contain the following characteristics: -

* Passionate about a specific subject, problem, or hobby. People should be willing to invest money to feed their desire. For example, a man with a weight problem, who wants to impress a girl, may be desperate to find dietary or fitness tips

* They must have the cash to invest in the right product. Someone who wants to seriously learn the piano, for example, must have the monetary means to invest in a quality training program

* The market must have a huge number of people, and be easily found. If there are only limited people interested, or you cannot easily market to them, you will struggle to generate income.

If you can find a hungry market, and offer them a product that feeds their desire, it's actually not that hard to make money working online - even if your website or sales letter is less than perfect. Let's say you had run out of petrol in the middle of an isolated road, and a truck stopped. The guy had some spare petrol in a can - but when he got close he had the worst halitosis ever, and smelt like a dead pig. You wouldn't care! You really want the petrol, and would overlook these points to get what you want.

Finding the ideal market does not just happen by chance. You need to do some research - and one great place to start is your local newsagent or bookstore. Go the magazine section and look for publications targeting a particular niche. The idea is to find something where people are really passionate about the subject. This can be anything from model railways, exotic pets, through to belly dancing or archery.

Once you've studied some magazines, start looking at the advertisements. What are the product types that appear regularly? Read through some of the articles and get a feel for what the hot topics are. Put yourself in the reader's place, and ask yourself, "if I was in this market, what would I really be looking to buy, or what question would I want an answer to"?

This process may take a little time, but it's worth doing properly. Get this bit right, and the rest (and that means earning income) will follow. Once you find one or two markets that you suspect could be winners, take a look at some back issues (your local market may sell these cheaply) and see what ads are published consistently. These ads are only appearing each month for one reason. The products they promote are selling simply because they are what the market demands. You now have a potential niche market, and can make money working online by selling, or promoting related products.
