Today's world is very hectic to say the least and sometimes it seems like the only thing that matters, especially in the western world is materialistic results and being a person of high value. I am not condemning these things and personally feel that every man should have enough resources to buy all the things he really wants in life, however I feel there is an aspect of self development and achievement that a lot of people are clearly missing.
The added focus on self development and goal setting has actually helped a lot of people to start taking action and working towards their goals, however it has also made a lot of people overly goal oriented.
This is not necessarily a bad thing in the sense of you achieving the goals you decide to reach, however it is very important to not just focus on the end goal but also on the process itself. If we take the example of making a million dollars for example, even though the million dollars is nice to have and is a great reward, the absolute reward actually lies in the process and what type of person we become in the process of earning one million dollars.
If you really start enjoying the process you will realize that reaching your goals will become almost effortless and you don't even need to motivate yourself anymore. When you start focusing more on what you are doing in the now instead of thinking about when you are finished, time will not only fly by but it will do so while you are enjoying yourself and having a great time.
Life isn't about reaching a lot of goals and then ticking them of on your great list of achievements. Life is about setting goals and using these goals as tracks and practice grounds where we hone and better or personality and learn great things about ourselves. In the end we don't take all the materialistic things we earned with us, we do however take with us the person we have become during our endeavors and challenges. By assuming such a mindset to achieving your goals you will quickly see that your whole perspective changes and you will realize that you had actually over complicated things earlier. Success is simple, the challenge lies in making the journey as fun and rewarding as possible.
