I am using this laptop for over two weeks now and I give it a 3.5 out of 5 votes. Here are my conclusions and opinions about this-
This is a good start / notebook entry level that was sent well packed by Amazon. One can rightly term this LPC as "Big Brother LITTLE NET-BOOK.
BUILD - It features a well-built body composed of tough plastic with a dotted outline key that makes it resistant non-glossy and fingerprints. Extended numeric key-pad is an added benefit, but I think the keybaord would be an accumulation of dirt very quickly and would not function. Missing are the LED indicators for number / caps lock keys which "a sort-of-a" is offset by an OSD (On Screen Display) indicator which informs the user about the current state of these keys yet, these keys are pressed, but still, the LED indicators is certainly the first choice for many.
PROCESSOR - AMD 120V single core at 2.2 GHz clockspeed and 512 KB of L2 cache is not "fast enough" processor compared with today's technology and customer demands, but it complements well thats a laptop for less than $ 400 (NOT $ 479.99). It heven't had problems heating up now with the processor after prolonged use up to 5:00 hours of operation with the Internet, multimedia player, PDF and MS Paint, Skype / Yahoo chat running in parallel.
LCD - This came to me as the most striking feature, this laptop features a large 15.6 "LCD with LED backlight that is very sharp, clear and bright Another thing that impressed me a lot is the steadyness / rigidity of its LCD bezel. LPC unlike Dell, it is really out of place in what ever angle you choose.
Add-ons (WEBCAM / MIC / CARD READER / HDMI) - The LPC has an average integrated Webcam show on the LCD bezel. You can not find any impressive on first use, but some adjustments and changes in the parameters (pixel resolution, brightness, contrast, etc.) will do a little better. MIC-in speaker really scores over the webcam with its warm welcome and quality of voice is recorded on board or in the transmission on the other side (when used with Skype / Yahoo voice chat). It also has a card reader Multi-in-1 with an HDMI port something that makes it unique in its class.
O / S isntallation - LPC came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium and it is really very simple to configure (or should I say, Finalize) the facility if the system took about 15-20 minutes to make it fully functional.
WIRELESS INTERNET - The wireless Internet access was good that I could not find a benefit on my old Dell D600 with Intel Pro Wireless 2915 LPC Mini Map.
OTHER - This system comes with 3 GB of DDR3 RAM, which only 2 GB is available for you to run your applications. The hard disk capacity is claimed to 250GB, but available / Set visible only 218GB (less memory and disk space are a normal and universal). The sound quality of built-in speakers is good. The system does not come with recovery CD, but it has a recovery option for creating installation CD / DVD, which should be created on first use when you log into the system.
To summarize, the Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 seems like a good, above average, entry-level notebook with an attractive price that most can use.
