subject: Airport Security Is Too Invasive [print this page]

Airport security measures following 9/11 have gotten completely out of hand. With the recent development of full body scanners producing naked images that are subsequently stored on computers rather than deleted, it's shocking that people continue to go along with it.

Boarding flights from New York to Dallas just got a little bit more difficult. Now you are likely to be humiliated by scanners which reveal you naked body beneath. They are overly invasive, and it's an unnecessary infringement on human rights that does nothing to support airport security. It is just another piece of airport security theatre that serves only to increase fear rather than make people feel safer.

People need to learn that taking away freedom in order to protect freedom just doesn't add up. People need to accept that sometimes people will somehow be able to get control of planes and try to direct them into buildings. That's the cost of living in a democracy. But this is so unlikely to happen. Terrorists very rarely are able to even set off a bomb on the ground. Why they would try to do it on a plane with the x-ray scanners is inconceivable. And just added to the number of security measure is unless.

The best thing to do is educate passengers as to exactly what to do in the event that there is an attempt at terrorism onboard flights from Manchester to Geneva, or to anywhere. This is the most effective measure to prevent terrorism, not humiliating treatment every time we take flights from London to Tallinn. People are starting to push back and overly invasive treatment will not prevent a single terrorist attack. And even if a terrorist was successful, then like an attack anywhere, we'd be able to rest easy knowing that we still have you freedoms.
