Your Confident Smile With Porcelain Dental Veneers

If you have suffered with the embarrassment of a damaged or discolored smile, you'll be amazed at the dramatic difference porcelain dental veneers can make. While all veneers can improve teeth, some look better than others. The very best veneers, offered by highly trained dentists like Shirley Cagle, DDS, are very natural looking with layered, translucent qualities and small imperfections, such as tiny ridges and bumps, that perfectly mimic natural teeth.

Just as in any veneering, veneering a tooth is to cover its front surface to enhance the shape and color of teeth, as well as to close spaces between your teeth. Together, you and Dr. Shirley Cagle will decide how your teeth should look as far as size, shape and color, taking into consideration your gender, your height, and your coloration.

What Is the Process Involved in Placing Porcelain Veneers?

An impression of the tooth must be made and a veneer molded by a lab technician. Because veneers require a small amount of enamel to be removed, they are permanent and non-reversible. The removal of this fine layer of the natural tooth allows a custom fit when the porcelain restoration is bonded to the tooth. Without that preparation, your teeth will feel unnaturally bulky and your veneer will not achieve the proper bond.

The process involves buffing, removing an extremely thin layer of the tooth, an impression of the tooth and final bonding of the veneer to the tooth with extremely durable bonding cerement. The bonding strength between a porcelain veneer and the tooth surface is tremendous, and when cared for properly, porcelain veneers can last for over a decade!

How Long Will It Take?

The correction of unattractive front teeth with porcelain veneers involves two office visits. The first visit entails the preparation of the teeth, taking impressions of the prepared teeth, and placement of temporary veneers. The final placement occurs approximately weeks later when the final porcelain veneers are permanently bonded.

How Will I Look After the Procedure?

Our patients are always pleased with the appearance of their porcelain dental veneers and it is always exciting to unveil the final result of the veneer procedure. Many of our patients are so pleased with their smiles that they shed tears of joy. They find themselves smiling and laughing more, interacting more freely and generally feeling more confident and outgoing. Many even say it has taken years off their appearance!
