2010 ACC Football Predictions
2010 ACC Football Predictions
The ACC figures to be a very strong conference during the 2010 season, as
there are a number of teams that could not only win the division, but
also find themselves playing for the BCS National Championship. In 2009
it was the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets who took home the conference
title, beating the Clemson Tigers for the second time in the ACC
Championship Game.
Betting college football lines is no easy task, especially in the highly
competitive ACC where it seems like the conference is always jam packed
at the top with a number of teams fighting for the chance to play in a
BCS game. With that here is a look at how I see the ACC shaping up in
2010, plus my prediction on who wins the conference championship game and
earns that automatic spot into a BCS game. For a bigger look at he 2010
season, check out Jack Jone's overall 2010 college football predictions.
ACC Coastal:
1.) North Carolina Tar Heels - The Tar Heels figure to have the best
defense in the ACC in 2010, and if the offense can just keep from turning
the ball over, I feel like this team has the best shot at winning the
very competitive Coastal division.
2.) Virginia Tech Hokies - The Hokies should be pretty good on offense
with 8 starters back, but the defense has just four returning starters.
They have a very rough stretch of games where they have to host Georgia
Tech then go on the road to play North Carolina and Miami.
3.) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - It's hard picking the defending champs
this low in the conference, but if teams find a way to stop the run the
offense really struggles to produce anything.
4.) Miami Hurricane - Don't get me wrong the Hurricane could very well
win the division in 2010, as they have a ton of talent coming back to a
team that really played well down the stretch. They have three very tough
home games against Florida State, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech.
5.) Duke Blue Devils - Just not enough talent for the Blue Devils to
compete with the rest of the teams in this conference, but they should be
able to beat the Cavaliers to stay out of the bottom of the Coastal for
the second straight season.
6.) Virginia Cavaliers - Not a lot to look forward to if you are a
Cavalier fan in 2010. Just 12 starters are back to a team that won just
two conference games in 2009.
ACC Atlantic:
1.) Florida State Seminoles - It should be very easy transition for new
head coach Jimbo Fisher, who spent most of last season preparing for this
moment. The Seminoles have arguably the best quarterback in the
conference in senior Christian Ponder, and that is why I have them
winning the Atlantic in 2010.
2.) Clemson Tigers - The Tigers figure to be very good again in 2010, as
the team only lost to two conference opponents in 2009. Unfortunatelyfor
the Tigers they draw Miami, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech out of the
Coastal division.
3.) Boston College Eagles - The Eagles very well good be the surprise
team out of the Atlantic in 2010. They have 14 starters back on a team
that lucks out and only has to play Virginia Tech (at home) out of the
top teams in the Coastal. The Eagles figure to have a strong running game
under junior Montel Harris, and look for improved play out of sophomore
quarterback Dave Shinskie.
4.) Maryland Terrapins - It was a miserable season for the Terrapins in
2009, as they managed to win just one conference game. Even though the
Terrapins have just 12 starters back, I think they can make a big
improvement in 2010. They easily have the easiest schedule out of the
bottom three teams in the Atlantic.
5.) Wake Forest Demon Deacons - The Demon Deacons suffered a number of
heart breaking losses in 2009, as they lost five games by three points or
less. The problem was the defense just wasn't good, and even though they
have seven starters back on that side of the ball, I think it will be
another tough season for Wake Forest.
6.) North Carolina State Wolfpack - I have the Wolfpack finishing up the
2010 season in last place in the Atlantic thanks to a ridiculously tough
conference schedule. If they fail to beat Wake Forest at home, they could
go without a conference win.
