2010 SEC Football Predictions
2010 SEC Football Predictions

The SEC seems to have a strangle hold on the BCS National Championship, as the conference has won the past four BCS titles and five of the past six. The Alabama Crimson Tide took down the 2008 National Champion Florida Gators 32-13 in the SEC Championship game, followed up by a great performance in the National title game against Texas, wehre they beat up on the Longhorns 37-21.

You can't question the talent that the entire SEC brings to the table, as 49 players were selected in the 2010 NFL draft. What makes the SEC so good is so many teams don't have to rebuild, they just have to reload with younger talent. Not to say other schools don't reload just as good, but when you look at the conference as a whole, there really isn't anything that compares right now.

When you begin to look at the college football odds for the 2010 season, I believe there are seven teams in this conference that could end up playing for the National Championship next season. Basically whoever makes it out of this conference deserves a shot at the title. See how many SEC teams Jack Jones has in his 2010 NCAA football predictions. Here is a look at how I think the SEC will shape up in 2010.

SEC West:

1.) Alabama Crimson Tide - It's hard to imagine that a team with just two starters back on one of the best defenses in the country could be just as good if not better the following season, but that is the case for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. I not only have them winning the West, but I have them beating Florida to play for the National Championship again in 2010.

2.) Arkansas Razorbacks - Quarterback Ryan Mallett is a stud, and the offense should be as good as any in the conference, the question will be can the defense play good enough to win them games in the 4th quarter.

3.) Auburn Tigers - The Tigers are one of my sleeper teams in the SEC this season, and could very well top both the Crimson Tide and the Razorbacks for the top spot in this division.

4.) LSU Tigers - The Tigers have just 10 starters back from last season, but there is enough talent in line to keep this team a float. They get a true test when Alabama comes in early in the season, but I have them 4th because of road games at Arkansas and Auburn.

5.) Mississippi State Bulldogs - Just too much talent ahead of the Bulldogs to have them anywhere but the bottom of this division. I have them winning the final game of the regular season against Mississippi to put them here.

6.) Mississippi Rebels - The offense has a ton of production to replace with the departures of quarterback Jevan Snead and running back Dexter McCluster. Look for a down year for the Rebels in 2010.

SEC East:

1.) Florida Gators - The Tim Tebow era is over in Gainesville, but the Gator domination figures to stick around. They have a ton of talent coming back on both the offensive and defensive lines, which is a great recipe for success in the SEC.

2.) South Carolina Gamecocks - I think this is the best shot the Gamecocks will have at winning the East, but unfortunately they have to go to Florida this season. While I have them picked second there is no question they have the talent to knock off the Gators when the two teams collide late in the season.

3.) Georgia Bulldogs - The Bulldogs season and possibly the job of head coach Mark Richt may depend on the arm of redshirt freshman quarterback Aaron Murray. Outside of quarterback the rest of the offense is back in 2010, and don't be surprised if this team does better than I have them predicted.

4.) Tennessee Volunteers - I think there is just too much change going on at Tennesee for this team to come out and compete for a SEC Championship. Plus the defense lost two players in the first round of the draft, and figures to have a big drop off this season.

5.) Kentucky Wildcats - The Wildcats just don't have what it takes to win the SEC East, but could jump the Vols if they can find away to win at Tennessee in the final game of the season.

6.) Vanderbilt Commodores - The Commodores do have eleven starters back in 2010, unfortunately it's to a team that went winless in conference play in 2009. The Commodores might get one conference win in 2010, but I don't know where it will come from.
