About 24 months ago,i heard the opportunity of been invited to a seminar organised by Microsoft Nigeria on the need to fight piracy of Microsoft softwares.The invitation came through an Association which i belong.Microsoft International is trying to eradicate the issue of piracy in sub saharan Africa,they saw the need to involve IT practitioner both in the Hardware and the software industry.Piracy has really digged into the polity to the extent that Softwares are been sold on the street.
The seminar took place,a huge representative of IT companies was in attendance and was a success.
Here i come,an attendance sheet was provided by Microsoft to register your presence at the seminar where you provide the full details of your company or your personal details.To me,its a normal thing to do to know number of participants at the seminar but,to Microsoft its a means of garthering information for a purpose.
Sebsequently,any Seminar or information from Microsoft is sent directly to my phone and my email addresss.Through this means,i heard the opportunity of registering to be a partner with Microsoft.Now,i begin to reason why the Attendance and full details of companies was collected.
The greatest surprise to me was when i began to receive text messages from Companies i never had any business with,marketing their products/services,invitation for a program,introducing new products,sending monthly price list e.t.c.Again,wondering where a hell is this peolple got my phone number from? My first thought was,most of these companies was present at the seminar organised by Microsoft.The details was gotten from Microsoft due to the fact that they are partnering with Microsoft.Now,using the information for their own marketing tools and means of reaching more people.
With this medium,i have done business with most of these companies"Power of technology through SMS messaging..."
