A Closer Look at the New Samsung Omnia 7

Of the influx of Windows 7 mobile handsets, the Samsung Omnia 7 is the most impressive thanks in part to the use of the same screen technology that is found in the excellent Galaxy S model.

Beneath the impressive exterior of the phone, the handset is well backed up by some impressive technology. A 1Ghz Qualcomm snapdragon processor is the engine that keeps everything moving on this handset at a tremendous pace. Connection wise the phone boasts a variety of different methods which ensure you can always keep up to date with what is happening around you. Wireless LAN is incorporated, meaning that where appropriate the phone can connect to a WiFi networks, which for the user means the fastest possible experience online. 3G connectivity is available whilst on the move, once again offering a speedy and ultimately pleasing experience. If all else fails then EDGE and GPRS are worthy substitutes, so whether browsing the web or checking your e mails, a connection is almost always available regardless of your location. The phone offers Bluetooth connectivity to compatible devices, with version 2.1 supported. The Omnia 7 sports a large capacity 8GB of internal storage, but unfortunately is lacking the common micro SD card slot, thus memory expansion is not viable.

Looks wise, the Samsung Omnia 7 is pleasing on the eye. The addition of a stylish matte aluminium finish on the rear of the chassis adds a touch of class to proceedings, and where you do find plastic parts, they do not feel cheap or poor quality. At 122.4 x 64.2 x 11mm, the phone is not the smallest you will encounter, however this is the flip side to offering screens of 4 inches and above. Speaking of the screen, this is where the Omnia 7 really excels. The 4" Super AMOLED display offers a picture quality that is unrivalled with the exception of the iPhone 4. The massive 480 x 800 pixel resolution offers vivid and crisp images, and with the capability of handling 16 million colours, web pages and photographs appear full of life. This screen is very well suited to the colourful and very angular interface that the Windows 7 OS offers. The technology used in the construction of the screen helps keep the phones depth down, whilst also improving visibility in natural sunlight. The Samsung Omnia 7 has set a benchmark for all forthcoming Windows 7 devices to live up to. A great screen and good quality media features ensure this handset will prove very popular with consumers everywhere.

The Samsung Omnia 7 and the Blackberry 9780 Bold White are available now.
