Moving Abroad

If you are tired of the cold wintry days spent in the UK, it could be the perfect time to make that big life change you've always dreamed off and emigrate to another country. On average two hundred thousand Britons leave UK shores each year in search of better weather, better jobs and ultimately a better life. But if you're thinking of following in their footsteps there are a few things you should consider before you take leap into the unknown and leave the UK for good.

If you're thinking of upping sticks and moving to a brand new place it's paramount to investigate everything about your chosen country before you make your plans to move. The first thing you should do is find out whether emigrating is even possible. Many countries allow a certain number of new citizens in to their land each year and will provide working visas to help you make this transition, but there are restrictions and limitations so it's important to check them out before booking your plane ticket.

Obtaining a working visa or citizenship in a new country is often easier said than done as, more often than not, you will have to prove your profession is needed in your chosen country or that you are the only person who can do your specific job. Jobs in healthcare and science are always required so if you are working in this area you will probably be fine. For any other profession you will need to have a job set up before you apply for a working visa. It's important to check the conditions of this type of visa though as it may require you to leave the country after a certain length of time or may be terminated if you leave your job.

Once you have the visas sorted out you are now ready to make your move. Packing up a lifetime of belongings is never easy but if you are not intending to move back to the UK at any point it's a good idea to sell everything you don't absolutely need to take with you. If you have bits and pieces you don't want to part with check out shipping arrangements and get organized well in advanced of your move so you won't be stranded in a foreign county without all your home comforts.

It's a good idea to have some accommodation ready before you arrive in your chosen country so you don't have to fork out extra cash for hotels. You will also need to get some expatriate health insurance so you can be sure you are covered as soon as you arrive to your new home.

Moving to a different country can seem complicated but if you do your research and plan ahead there is no reason why your emigration can't be a smooth and stress free experience.
