subject: Christmas Movies For 2010 [print this page]

Christmas is a great time to get together with the family and go to the cinema to enjoy a wonderful movie. Some families even make a tradition of it, and go on Boxing Day every year to watch a film thats been released especially for this time of year.

So what are the best movies for families to watch this Christmas?

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 1

Theres a huge buzz about this film, especially if youre a fan of the Harry Potter books and youve seen all the previous movies. The second part is due to be released in mid-2011.

Basically, this movie is based on the last book in the series and shows Harry defeating Lord Voldemort once and for all. But on his journey he has to recover the legendary Horcruxes and destroy them.

The Harry Potter books are regarded as a childrens series, although each novel seems to be progressively darker. This film comes with an M rating, so it may not be suitable for small children.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

This tale, set in the wild, snowy mountains of Finland on Christmas Eve, tells the story of how Santa is discovered during an archaeological dig. But then children start mysteriously disappearing

Voyage Of The Dawn Treader

Based on the childrens classic by C S Lewis, this is another Narnia film. Lucy and Edmund team up with their cousin Eustace and return to Narnia. Once there, they meet Prince Caspian and join him for an exciting voyage on The Dawn Treader.

The Tree

This is an Australian/French co-production and received rave reviews at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. Its based on the novel Our Father Who Art In The Tree by Australian author Judy Pascoe.

Gullivers Travels

This movie, in 3D, is a Jack Black vehicle. Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black) is a travel writer but his new assignment goes awry when he ends up in Liliput instead of Bermuda. If youve wanted to see a 3D movie but havent yet, now may be the time to do so!

Its fun to eat snacks at the movies, but the prices can be quite expensive. One way around this is to take some goodies with you if its not breaking any cinema rules. If you received gift baskets or chocolate hampers on the big day, then you may want to bring some gourmet food with you.

Chips, Christmas chocolate, lollies and other treats will help keep the hunger pangs at bay while youre watching a movie on the big screen. You may even want to make a whole day out of it, and pack a picnic hamper to enjoy after the movie.

Having a picnic at a park after watching your movie can really make your day special with your family. In fact, if you make it a Boxing Day tradition, then your family will have two special days to look forward to; not just Christmas Day.

So if you love the outdoors and movies, why not combine the two and have a magical Boxing Day as well?
