Nonrenewable sources of energy are already decreasing; a common example of this is fossil fuel. Alternative sources are now being looked at, especially the renewable and natural sources like wind, rain, geothermal heat and sunlight. Industries, residences and other machineries will be greatly benefitted by the harnessed and harvested energy from the natural resources.

The radiant light and heat from the sun which can be stored and converted to electricity, also known as solar energy, is the best option for renewable energy. Though still harvested in minuscule amounts, technological developments are on its way to harnessing at an optimum level because solar energy is very beneficial to the environment and to the households' finances.

Solar energy is clean, renewable and sustainable. First of all, unlike the fossil fuels, conversion of solar energy to electricity is doesn't have harmful emissions like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, mercury and other pollutants that can harm the environment. Without these air pollutants, solar energy does not contribute to different environmental tragedies like global warming, acid rain, greenhouse effect or smog. Aside from decreasing air emissions, the use of solar energy does not involve storage of radioactive waste, which has long been a problem of the environment. Also, unlike gas, oil and coal, the heat and light from the sun is continually replenished.

Another advantage of using solar energy is that it is an independent system. Home solar power systems means that it can offset utility-supplied energy consumption. This will not only put a decrease on your electricity bill, but also provide continuous supply to the household during power outage. This is extremely beneficial to small businesses which rely on electricity. Also, since the solar energy system can operate independently, it does not need a gas or power grid. This makes the system feasible to be installed in remote locations, making it more cost-effective than installing a whole new electrical system to the site.

Solar energy systems are maintenance free, giving it another advantage. This characteristic makes it budget-friendly since there are no recurring costs, maintenance costs, and other money-spending attributes.

However, there are a still a few disadvantages. First, the system relies on proper location towards the sun. More than that, its efficiency depends on absence of clouds and other blockages. Second, it requires a big space to be properly installed. A larger solar panel gives more harvested sunlight, which gives more power.

Though there are disadvantages, converting to solar power still has more advantages. Besides, all the cons of the project can be solved to carry out a better system for power.
