subject: A Buyers Guide For Luxury Sheets [print this page]

Today there are many options for the person wanting to buy luxury sheets. Silk, Egyptian cotton and Bamboo are the three top choices.

Silk bed sheets are both soft and durable. This makes it a popular choice for those who enjoy the finer things in life. Silk is a fiber that comes from the silkworm. The worm itself feeds on mulberry leaves for about a month. When it begins to spin a cocoon, after a few days it can spin as much as a mile of silk thread. The shimmer of silk gives a room a great luxurious atmosphere. Silk sheets are also hypoallergenic, which basically means that it will not result in any allergic reactions. The draw back to silk bedding is that it can get rather pricey and too expensive for many people. The care and cleaning of silk can also be a chore.

Egyptian cotton sheets are the most popular choice today. They can be found in a wide range of thread counts, anywhere from 300 to 1500 threads per square inch. Egyptian cotton is a fine, lustrous, long staple cotton grown in Egypt. Long staple cottons are more expensive than the common available cottons, because they are synonymous with quality. Egyptian cotton has the longest fibers. When the cotton is pulled from the cotton plant, and the seeds are removed Egyptian cotton has longer fibers available for spinning into yarn. When weaving strands of yarn to make a larger item, long-staple cotton has the fewest connection points; as a result a higher percentage of area is the natural softness of the cotton. Egyptian cotton sheets are machine washable. Egyptian cotton sheets prices vary with their thread count, the higher the thread count the higher the price. However with this larger range most everyone can find a sheet set to his or her liking.

Bamboo sheets are relatively new to the luxury bedding seen. Bamboo sheets offer some unique advantages, which has many people today choosing luxury bamboo bedding. Bamboo sheets are as soft as silk because bamboo fibers are naturally soft, smooth and round. Bamboo is a natural fiber a derivative from the eco-friendly bamboo plant. Bamboo sheets are hypoallergenic, have a high amount of natural anti-bacterial qualities, and anti-fungal properties. Bamboo is an extremely breathable fabric, making bamboo sheets warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Bamboo sheets are priced just slightly higher than Egyptian cotton sheets and are machine washable.

There are also some blended sheets in the market today. These luxury sheets are a blend of bamboo and Egyptian cotton. The result is a very decadent soft sheet with the smoothness of silk. These sheets are something to look into if you truly want to pamper yourself and not break the bank. Because of what they are made of they are both affordable and easy to maintain.

You simply cannot go wrong with any of these sheets. Everyone has a personal preference. When you go to sleep tonight why not pamper yourself in luxury? Lay down in the soft feel that only quality luxury bedding has. Go ahead you deserve it
