subject: Planning Your Summer Vacation Early [print this page]

When you are choosing your vacation for summer break you want to start the process early. To take the stress out of the process you can start early and have your break planned far before you plan to leave on your vacation.

Taking the time to plan your break early may be difficult. The more time that you dedicate to the process now the easier it will be when you are in the middle of your summer break and running around to accomplish your large list of things to do.

First, you want to choose some dates. There are a lot of dates in the summer times that are going to be more difficult to travel during because you will run into many other travelers that are taking advantage of their child's break as well.

As you are planning the date you may want to look into the travel traffic. When you know that there are going to be a lot of people at the destination you are travelling to or even just a lot of people travelling you will have to be prepared to be patient.

You should always take the time to look at your family's schedule. Planning a vacation early that is going to have major conflicts with your schedule can be very frustrating and expensive if you have already made arrangements for your vacation.

When you know that you are going to be dealing with a hectic schedule you will want the vacation planned early. This way, as new events pop up your summer can fill up around your vacation rather than you planning around a booked summer.

If you are going to be vacationing with people outside of your family you should also work out your schedule with them. This can be frustrating and time consuming but the more that you understand about their schedule the smoother the process will be.

After you have chosen a date you will want to choose a destination. There are many different ways that you can go about choosing a destination that is going to be fun and worthwhile for everyone that is vacationing.

As you are planning this aspect of your vacation you want to keep in mind anyone with special needs. When you have a lot of young children on your vacation this may change the location that you are looking into.

There are not a lot of people that are brave enough to venture to a new destination each year. Although something can be said for vacationing in the same spot consistently and being used to an area you may want to think about spicing things up a tad.

Spicing things up can be scary. You should make sure that if you are going to be vacationing to a new area that you are able to research the area thoroughly so that you know what type of vacation you and your family are planning on taking.

When you have been going on a cruise every year you may want to go river rafting this year. Or you may want to visit a specific destination so that you can go on tours of the area or hike through some beautiful scenery.

Taking the time to do some research will help you as you are choosing a destination. There are many vacation spots that are not very well known in the United States and will not be as crowded during the high travel months.

Iron River in Michigan is a great example of one of these types of vacations. Although there are many different things to do in this area it is not very well known to the general public because it has not become very popular.

If you are looking for a vacation in a big city with lots of city related activities to participate in this is not the vacation for you. This is why it is important to take the time to talk with everyone going on the vacation with you to understand all expectations.

Once you have made your reservations and you are all set to go you will be able to relax as the summer months roll around. You may also be much more excited about your vacation if you have all of that time to look forward to the vacation.

Finally, you can plan out many of your activities before you get to your destination. This will help you to have an exciting vacation and also to stay within your budget for the vacation.
