Bangkok Oil Massage Parlors - What Goes on Behind the Closed Doors

The massage industry is huge in Bangkok, particularly in the oil massage category. Though most are located throughout Bangkok there are a few oil massage parlor hot spots that no new visitor to Bangkok's steamy nightlife should miss out on.

Even though traditional Thai massage is a favorite pastime for locals, oil massage parlors have become a great hit for foreigners out for a raunchy vacation.

How can you tell if a certain massage establishment offers happy endings? If the windows are tinted in black and located in the red light districts with shop names like Love Teen Massage or Angels then you know you've found the right place.

Here's a typical scene when one enters an oil massage parlor:

You are greeted by a lady at the front desk who offers you a picture book displaying all the ladies who are employed to service you. Though it is always best to ask if you can see the ladies first hand. Most establishmentswill oblige your request.

Choose your lady masseuse.

Then you are shown a menu of massage options:

Traditional Massage (No one really chooses this though, but it is cheap, about 200THB per hour)

Oil Massage (Popular choice for obvious reasons and very affordable, 300THB to 350THB)

Aromatherapy (No point in choosing this either, just extra cost for something that will make you smell nicer in the end)

Room with mirrors etc. and other comforts like a jacuzzi in room.

Then you pay the cashier for the massage service you've chosen and then the lady you've chosen will meet you and take you to a room. In the room you are given a towel and asked to strip down and take a shower. Don't be shy. Sometimes the masseuse will shower with you and sometimes she might not. If she doesn't, don't be offended.

So you might be asking "What about the payment for "extra services?". Well that comes after your massage course is over.

Your masseuse will ask you what kind of "relief" you would like. What you require will factor in how much you pay. But for full service the typical cost is 1500THB. You pay when the deed is done, right after you've taken a shower, dressed and ready to out.

Tipping is absolutely optional. Some say don't tip at all. However if you feel like you have received really good service and have the money to spare, go ahead and tip another few hundred Baht.
