Self Defense Training

So you've decided that with all the news about random muggings or home invasions or whatever, that maybe it is time to learn martial arts, or at least get yourself some self defense training. You've been looking at getting into better shape. Why not get better at defending yourself at the same time.

Now you're a smart person, so you do your homework and checked out a few places. They all seem pretty good, but there isn't much money in the budget and maybe this is something I could teach myself if I was given the right guidance. After all, with advancements in the availability of information to billions of people across the world through the Internet, you would think you can teach yourself almost anything by doing a simple Google search.

You may want to look at getting the self defense training you need through a martial arts dvd. There are many advantages to doing this. First, the cost is usually a lot less than joining a studio that teaches self defense training. In some cases you can pick up a martial arts dvd for as little as $9.95. Not a lot to invest to improve your self confidence and physical presence.

You can work out in the privacy of your own home and if your confidence isn't all that high (don't be concerned, most people taking up self defense training for the first time have confidence issues-it is quite common) you don't have to worry about being embarrassed in front of a whole class.

A friend of mine told me about a great idea he had. He purchased a martial arts dvd from the huge selection online, worked with it until he got better and fitter and then looked at taking classes. It turns out that he got just as fit as he would have gotten if he took an actual self defense class. Not only that, but he was able to learn all the technical abilities that come with a sound self defense system.

Even if you are not looking at some sort of self defense training, working out at home with the aid of a martial arts dvd, can help your overall fitness greatly. If you are looking to get back in shape and lose some extra fat, this is one of the top ways of achieving the results you are seeking.

When you are shopping, try and get an instructional program that suits your athletic ability and your present fitness level. Whether shopping online or in your local DVD store, get as much information as you can. You don't want to start out with something out of David Carradine or Bruce Lee that you can't handle. Not only would it be counter-productive, but you might hurt yourself.

Remember, the big advantage to working out with a martial arts dvd, is that you are in the privacy of your own home. You don't have to impress anyone by overdoing it. Think of it as stage 1 of self defense training and good luck
