As women, we are constantly under pressure to look good, yes? But what is good?
We obsess about our weight and spend hours in the gym, we try diets (give up on diets!) and deny ourselves in the relentless pursuit of the weight which will make everything in our life better. Plastic surgery is on the rise, that quick fix is now so easy and women are putting themselves at risk to look a certain way. When a healthy diet and exercise are not quite enough to make you feel your best or look your best, rather than looking at un-healthy or dangerous solutions, why not go for the easy solution.............what you wear.
Many women are unaware of the power of well-fitting clothes. Knowing how the accentuate what you have naturally, is a liberating experience that will leave you feeling like a gorgeous woman- who doesn't want that?! I don't believe that there is a perfect size or shape, sure looking like a size 6 model is enviable, but when you understand your body and learn the right style and proportions to enhance your shape, know how to camouflage what you don't like and flaunt what you do, getting dressed in the morning becomes an exercise in self-promotion!
Here are a few tips to help you along the way, to find your va va voom......
1/ Look closely at your body. Which part of you do you like the most?
If you have a little waist go for nipped in skirts or structured dresses. (think 1940's, 50's style, large bottoms and busts were admired, the perfect hourglass figure was sought after- curves were in!)
Looking to hide your waist? empire lines (tops or dresses that flare out from just below the bust) will conceal your area of concern.
If you wish for a bigger bust, look for tops that have detail around that area, ruffles, pleats, will create volume, creating the impression of more there.
For larger busted women, please avoid polo necks, high necks, frill and any fancy detailing in that area, although the temptation is to cover, doing so will merely make them look bigger.
What ever you see that you like, thats what you need to think of while shopping. Whatever you don't, create a diversion, smokes and mirrors.
2/ Look at your wardrobe. Select a few staples- items that you love and have lasted you well. These timeless pieces are worth holding on to. Identify what needs to go - anything too small, too tight, too age-inappropriate (if it's pink or fluffy, that's a good sign!) and what additions will work best to give you maximum versatility for your wardrobe.
3/ Quite often when we shop, we go for things out of instinct, our comfort zone. Look at yourWardrobe Personality, is there a difference between who you are and who you want to be? If so, throw out all your shopping conventions and make that aspirational style happen.
4/ Learn how to work your current wardrobe try everything on, put outfits together in new ways. Never underestimate the power of great accessories. Freshen up old looks with new fashion pieces, jewelry, scarves, a hat even can completely update your style.
5/ Organise your wardrobe so you know what you have! Simple but effective.
6/ Shop with a planand consider every purchase you make. You should love it, ambivalence is pointless when shopping. Think if the item you are about to buy works with the rest of your wardrobe. If it is too 'in fashion' be aware of the fact that it will be out of fashion soon, if budget is a consideration, go for pieces with longevity.
7/ Clothes only accentuate what you have, first rule of dressing, feel good, look good, others will think so too.
