Is your PS3 red light flashing and won't turn on? Did it give three beeps before it started the flashing? Would you like to know what you can at least do to get the console back on even if it is for just long enough to get your disks out and create backups? Here are a few tips to help you.
1. Reduce the Heat
What was the console doing before it developed this problem? Were you playing a game when it suddenly happened? If yes, chances are that it may be related to too much heat. To get it to work, put the console close to a fan or an AC, and allow it cool for about 30-45 minutes.
Ensure that it is completely cool during this time. Before doing this though, it will help to see if it is just one side of the console that is really hot. If it is, that's a definite indication that it was caused by heat.
2. Look for Melted Paste
Sony often recommends putting it back on after step 1. As you know, this probably never works. So, move on to the next level and look for the thermal paste to see if it is melted. This would usually involve uncoupling your console. If it is, replace the thermal paste, and boot your console.
3. Install an Intercooler
If you have the means, go get an intercooler after ascertaining that it works. Turn it back off, get the intercooler or ensure that the vents get adequate air to reduce the heat. Install the intercooler -you don't need this if you'll use a fan or AC- and turn it on. It should work without any stress now.
