subject: Three Ways to Take Your Triathlon to the Next Level [print this page] Three Ways to Take Your Triathlon to the Next Level
There's a lot of advice out there about training for different types of triathlons. With sprint triathlons, Olympic and half-Ironman distance tri's, and even up to Ironman distance triathlons, it's sometimes unclear what the biggest rewards will be for your training investments.
How do you know what to focus on in training that will get you to the next level? Fortunately, there are a lot of resources available that will help you increase your fitness, develop endurance and stamina, and fine tune your cycling and swimming technique so you can overcome the competition and set a new personal best the next time you compete.
Here are three of my favorite tips to take it to the next level and become more competitive.
First, it's in your best interest to hire a coach that will help you with your triathlon training program. As much as you think you know, you can benefit from the guidance of somebody outside your head who's been involved in the sport longer than you.
Next, if you are a new triathlete or even a veteran, you're likely not capitalizing on your aerobic system to help you gain endurance. Make sure you are riding long and running long runs every week. These should be the cornerstone of your training program.
Finally, technique is very important both on the bike and in the water. Both are technical sports and slight modifications in your form can increase efficiency and make you a faster rider. Make sure you're doing them both right!
By implementing these strategies, you're sure to become a faster triathlete and have a lot more fun with your training.
