From my experience, Quickbooks 2010 mac, works great for me, and I'm very happy with the software. But I may have to fit a limited group of users
(1) I have no employees and no wages. I am the sole owner-doo.
(2) I am familiar with QuickBooks (Windows), but I had no data transfer, or QuickBooks (Windows) or another program.
This is my story.
After reading many bad reviews on Amazon.com here, I decided to buy QuickBooks MYOB Account Edge. Yes, MYOB stable, but for me it seemed too complex for small businesses like mine. That said, there were many restrictions. For example, limited training budget this year and next year only. Form editor was very rude and I found it almost impossible to create professional invoices. Moreover, doing what should be a simple introduction or amendment appears to be full of complexity. I found myself doing the fear in my book, which is not good.
MYOB left disappointed and took a chance on QuickBooks Mac. I'm very glad I did. I found Mac QuickBooks is very easy and pleasant to use. There are some minor aches and Gotch, but overall I am very happy with it. For your reference, here are some of the gotcha. Will always know what is the basis of cash or accrual basis of predefined reports created. It does not seem to matter whether the exposure (in cash or accrual) which reports owning things. For example, the summary reports by default income, cash, profit and loss reports in detail as standard accounts. Without knowing it can give wrong file your insurance. QuickBooks editor form is much better than MYOB, but still not very complicated. Even with the hassle, for me anyway, QuickBooks Mac to work.

Provides an excellent collection of records and reports. Almost too much and at times a bit confusing [mainly for those not knowledgeable about accounting practices specifically], but plenty of details and data retained and works as indicated. The online forum for QB provides a good community of users and experts who can provide helpful information if needed

Good for beginners
I had never used QuickBooks before at all, and decided I'd try to teach myself how to use it when I started a small side business. Most of the reviews here are from people who have used QB for a long time, have converted from QB for Windows or have very involved business needs. I don't fall into any of those categories, so I'll just review it for people who, like myself, have extremely basic bookkeeping needs.
I am totally new to bookkeeping and accounting. I was able to figure this program out on my own in order to use it to keep track of income, expenses and invoices. The "help" is really useful, and if you make a mistake, a dialog box pops up to tell you what you did wrong. You can set it up to work with your business bank account if you have one. It's easy to use and easy to figure out, but if you're not familiar with accounting terms (like I'm not), be prepared to do a little homework.

Easy to Set Up and Use
The program installed on my iMac without a hitch and the first thing I did was to set up a file for a new (fictional) company. I'm new to Quickbooks, but thanks to the Guide Me Feature, I had it set up in no time. This Guide Me feature is probably something long time Quickbooks users don't need, but I found it very helpful.
The program is very Mac like and that's a good think. The last thing a Mac user wants to see is a port from Windows that looks like it's the ugly boy in the schoolyard.
Merchant Services are new to the program and they allow you to take credit cards. I'm not taking them in my fictional business, but if I wanted to set one up for real, I could. However, I'd have to pay to set it up and there's a monthly fee. You can also send email invoices to your customers from within the program and you can personalize bulk emails to your clients.
If you've got a small business or a big one and you want to keep track of it financially on the Mac, then this would be a good program for you.

I really needed a program to keep track of my home business and home expenses. This is doing it. I wish it would have come with a little "how to be a better account", But that is not it's function. It's meant to help the person who already keeps some records and will allow you to organize yourself. The online community provided by intuit is fantastic and helped me through the questions I had. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!

Great way to improve self-employment organization.
I have been self-employed for the last few years in a casual billing setting. But as word of mouth grows and clients expand, it's time to take it a bit more seriously. I usually just used a spreadsheet and a printer, but QuickBooks takes you to the next level of organization and professionalism. I don't have other versions of QuickBooks to compare it to, I can just say it's a great improvement on how I manage my finances and billing clients. Connecting easily to bank records, and easy access to client contracts and billing schedules. I don't need to deal with payroll options, but I am loving the graphs and reports telling me progression with profits. It integrates perfectly with iCal so I won't miss billing dates along with deadlines. This is also far above all the help I expected in tax preparation. And since this is all new to me, the "Guide Me" feature is a welcomed plus. If you are a growing business, I highly recommend this for taking your success to a new level.

Mac OS and QuickBooks = The Best of Both Worlds!
I've been running QuickBook on the PC for about a year now. QuickBook is really among the top products for small business software, but Vista sometimes made it frustrating. I know that not many small business use a Mac, but for the few who have access to one, using this software on Mac OS really made it more pleasant.
The software's installation was straight forward, as you would expect from Mac OS. Set up the accounts was much the same as in Windows. If you are a new Mac user, it takes some getting used to even ifyou are an experienced QuickBook user. But after getting the hang of it, I believe you would like it more.
I used only some simple features of the software for my work and it has been very nice. For the more sophisticated users, I have no doubt you would find some feature missing or working differently.

Improving but not quite there
For reference, I was using a copy of the software that was given to me by the company for review purposes, and for the purpose of testing I decided to use a machine running 10.5.8. It's a somewhat older piece of hardware, so while the software was a little sluggish I think that was more a reflection of the processing power of the computer it was running on more than an issue with the software itself.
I liked the interface for its polish and the way it fit in with the look and feel of the operating system. It includes a lot of great options for displaying reports about how you're doing over time as well. It was also nice to see support for adding credit card payments.
It's unfortunate that the company doesn't yet seem to feel the need to give this version of its software the same amount of attention as the versions for other platforms. Online bill pay and cross platform file compatibility really do need to be addressed to make this into a solid piece of software. I'm perhaps being somewhat generous in giving it 4 stars, but I'm taking into consideration that it's improved from the prior version, and that this isn't an area where it's competing with a lot of other strong software that could be recommended in its place.
On the whole I would say it's moving in the right direction but it really needs to go farther
