McAfee Total Protection 3 User (2010) Nice Improvements...Very Good Product!
I like some of the new features in McAfee Total Protection. I used to have it with Comcast, but Comcast is switching to a different provider for security so I decided to purchase McAfee Total Protection. The new interface is extremely user friendly. It took some getting used to but very well organized. The only problem I have is that you cannot maximize the interface so you have to scroll through items after a scan and there could be pages and pages. My eyes will have to get used to that.
I used to notice when the scan was taking place but now there seems to be very little impact on the machine during the scans! The only thing I don't like is that you have 30 days from the time of install to obtain FREE service. After that all calls are a minimum of $9.95 per incident. Otherwise you'd have to use the forums and search for assistance.
Overall I am very pleased with the product. I purchased this for myself and for my parents.

Previously, I ran Nortons Internet Security 2005-2008 (for 3 users) and it really bogged down my 3 PC speeds. In 2009 I changed from Nortons to McAfee Internet Security under the advice from our IT Department at work. It ran alot better however in the middle of 2009 after one of McAfee's automatic updates, McAfee started to recognizing one of the standard files as a problem file and was giving me an error, this lasted several weeks until a new update corrected the problem. The McAfee 2009 Version would automatically update files and I couldn't pause it for important work that I would be doing. During the updates it caused my PC to really slow. Otherwise I liked the look and the feel of McAfee Internet Security 2009. In 2010 I upgraded the McAfee to the Total Protection (for 3 users). Had no problem loading on 3 different machines and now it lets me choose when I want to update. The Scans are thorough and "User Friendly". I no longer have the Slowed PC Issues. Unwanted desktop icon reappears
While still the same product as previous versions, the 2010 version has a different user interface. Appears to be the same amount of services still using up your resources. The only con I have about this product is this, the desktop icon keeps reappearing every time I reboot my machine. If you're like me and don't want shortcuts on your desktop for a program u can easily double click from the system tray to access, this will annoy you. Overall it's the same McAfee we've been offered in previous versions with a different look to it. I will continue to use this product because I like the protection I get from it, but unless there is a revision to allow that desktop icon to disappear for good, I will not be returning to McAfee for a 2011 version. I would give this product a 5 star rating otherwise.

easy to install for a software novice
So, it's not easy to write a review for Virus Protection Software. Either you get a virus, and therefore the product stinks; or it does it's job and "meets expectations". Not sure what this product would have to do to exceed expectations, since my expectations around virus protection are pretty high. Overall, I found the McAfee Total Protection 3 was super easy to install (even for computer semi-illiterate folk like me) and I had no issues with it for the 2 months I was using it. Then 2 weeks ago, I needed to replace my hard drive for an unrelated issue. Had to reinstall everything. Did I mention that I'm awful at all that computer software stuff? So reinstalling all my software was a daunting task for me... But, that said, reinstalling the Total Protection 3 was again seemless and super easy. Had to call customer support because I had questions about re-registering my subscription and they were very helpful. No other issues at all with the product to date.
