subject: Why Should You Build A List [print this page]

Why have an opt in form?
Why have an opt in form?

This is so that you can capture your prospect's details before he leaves and forgets to come back.

Internet users always act on impulse and the problem with acting on impulse is that people don't always remember where they were 10 web pages ago. I'm sure you can relate to this as much as I do! So before the prospect leaves your website, you would want to at least capture his details so you can build a list of prospects so you can start communicating with them to build trust and rapport.

Building a list allows you to expand your business and will increase your profits by focusing on customers and prospects who are interested in what you are marketing. Once you started to introduce yourself, tell them more about yourself through your follow-up e-mails, how you can help them solve a certain problem or achieve a certain desire or goal, you will start to gain more trust and close even more sales through your email follow-ups. You can then create an on-going relationship with your list by providing updates, promotions and offers that generate sales.

The money is in the list is a phrase often used by experts and it's because having your own email list makes you less reliant on search engines. You will not need to worry about search engine changes affecting your rankings and it dramatically reduces the expense and hassles of advertising. Some businesses even make money by offering paid newsletters to their email list.

List building Systems:

There are two common systems for online list building:

1- Single Opt in

2- Double Opt in

Single opt in lets each visitor to subscribe just by providing name and email. Once they've done that they are added to your list automatically and don't need to confirm their subscription. This generates a larger customer list because it requires just one step to subscribe. However, the list is more likely to contain uninterested parties, inaccurate email entries, or unauthorized subscriptions.

Double Opt in on the other hand requires the subscriber to confirm his interest by receiving an automated message with a link to click on and agree to receiving information from the company. Their details will be added to the list only after they confirmed their interest. Many businesses find that a double opt in is far superior to single opt in because the multiple steps create a clearly interested target audience and minimizes bogus contacts and spam issues. It also confirms to list builder that the email address provided is a real address and not a made up one.
