Reliable and efficient parcel delivery services help Salford rise out of industrial decline

Anyone who has designs on doing business in Salford needs the backing of dependable and efficient parcel delivery services. While Salford might be seen by many as a poor relation to neighbouring Manchester, over the years it has played just as important a role in the UK's industrial history.

Granted a charter in the 13th century, Salford became a major centre of the textile industry following the industrial revolution. It also lay on the route of the world's first inter-city railway line, which links Liverpool and Manchester and opened in 1830. Another transport landmark involving the city opened in 1894 the Manchester Ship Canal, which links Salford with the River Mersey and the massive port of Liverpool, was opened, providing the city's mills with direct access to the coast, for onward export of their products around the world.

In the century that followed, Salford witnessed the rise, and then the decline, of its mills, as cheaper foreign imports eventually decimated the cotton industry. As the decline took hold, swathes of Salford's slum housing fell into dereliction and were demolished. Salford's modern economy is based around the former docks area which, renamed the Quays, is now the base for many new businesses, particularly in the retail, leisure and finance sectors. The move of five major departments of the BBC to Salford Quays from 2011 is expected to result in a massive boost to the local economy, which is estimated to bring more than 15,000 jobs to the area, and to boost the local economy by about 1billion in the first five years.

When this development is complete, Salford will have a place on the national UK stage which it has not enjoyed since the heyday of the textile industry. As a result of this massive investment, many other businesses are turning their attention to Salford, and planning how to meet the needs of the many new residents who will be both working and, very likely, living in the city.

The area is already well served by the leading parcel delivery and express delivery companies, but with greater focus on the city and surrounding borough expected to result from the BBC's arrival, considerable efforts are being made to provide the level of service which will match the city and the borough's new status as a centre of activity of the UK's media. With the massive transformation of the city from industrial centre to media hub all set to take place, the race is on to provide Salford with the logistics and delivery services demanded of a sophisticated 21st century city.

Many delivery companies concentrate substantial resources on providing Salford with excellent courier services. Details of these services, and of the easy steps necessary to arrange a Salford parcel delivery, are available online.
