With deer mating and rifle season underway in most parts of the country everyone needs to be careful and mindful of deer movements. A recent search for deer brings up among other things multiple stories of deer running into or through things. Looking at a few of these articles helps in providing important and key facts to remember during this time of the year.

Driving with Deer

Recently a Minnesota family was driving to a pizza restaurant when a deer jumped into their front windshield and exited the car through the rear window. This story draws light on how people should go about driving in areas where deer traffic is high. It is recommended that when driving you should not just focus on the road but also be aware of activity on the side of the road. When driving at night use your high beams as frequently as possible to make it easier to see deer eyes. Most importantly remember that deer travel in groups so if you only see one there is most likely a few right around the bend. It is also recommended not to swerve if you are about to hit a deer as more damage is caused if you hit another car or a tree.

Budweiser Deer

This story is more amusing then anything but I just had to share it. Watch the video here. The deer crashed through a window and into a bar in Ohio shocking both the staff and customers. No injuries were reported and the deer survived (at least until he tries the same stunt near a treestand). I think that this video brings up a good question, what should you do if you are caught in a building with a live deer? The best advice I have is get out of the way and be very mindful of the legs as they are more powerful than humans.

All of these increased deer incidents bring up another interesting point. Are deer becoming too comfortable in urban settings? I think so, with more and more reports of deer running into and through things I feel that we need to do something to keep deer out of cities. People need to stop feeding deer in their backyards because although they are beautiful creatures they can also be very destructive. The damage done to the bar above might not have been that great but when one deer injuries three people like in the Driving with Deer story we need to seriously think of ways other than population control to keep deer away from public areas.

What are everyone else's thoughts and opinions on the subject of deer population control? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
