subject: Terran Strategies And Rush Attacks For Starcraft 2 [print this page]

Introduction
Introduction

The Terrans are the most defensive race in SC2. Although the Terran race is the focus of the Single Player mode in Starcraft 2, many of the best units featured in the single player game are not available in multiplayer mode in order to keep the gameplay fair. When the expected expansion packs for the Zerg (Heart of the Swarm) and Protoss (Legacy of the Void) come out, there is a likelihood that the strongest units will be playable in multiplayer mode. Terran's are a simple race for beginners on battle.net. Due to the race's flexibility, the Terran's have numerous strategies for defeating their opponents.

The Terran ability to pick up and move their Command Center while the game is a unique defensive skill when used correctly. Granted this would be a more effective tool if the maps were bigger, but can still be extraordinarily useful if the relocation is used at the right time.

General Strategies

With the use of Siege Tanks, Bunkers, and Supply Depots, as well as your Command Center, beginners usually wall in and assume they are invulnerable. While turtling can work well, your command center will still be overrun if you don't use your reapers, hellions, and other fast soldiers to amplify your reach. Make sure to take advantage of Terran micro strategies and Terran macro strategies to learn even more techniques for elevating your gameplay.

It's critical to always be improving your economy, buildings, and research as you wall in. Scouting and harassing while doing this is the difference between a win and a loss. Many people underrate the SCV unit - they are very helpful defensive units but are also very helful while on the offensive. SCV units can construct turrets, bunkers, and can also fix other machine units while in combat. So long as they are defended well, they can be the difference between winning and a loss.

Marines & Hellions

A great cheese attack for early game offensives is to construct Hellion and Marines together. Even though these units are not very powerful if you let your foe to extend their technology, a fast beginning with them will enable you crush most early enemy units - just focus on their superior range and unit control.

Marines, Marauders, and Medivacs

Developing Marines and Marauders at the start of the game is one more smart cheese offensive strategy. It's important to construct the Marines as fast as possible in the game's beginning stages. Because they are costly troops, make sure to fix them and before they die. Pay attention to your micro play by withdrawing units that have taken a lot of damage so they can be fixed. Quickly constructing Marines is very effectual when facing a Zerg opponent. While Marauders are very slow units, they can take lots damage before they die and can slow down the opposing attack in a big way. Be careful, because Marines are extremely easy to take out from behind. However, they are really powerful when attacking in numbers, and can attack both ground and flying troops. The mixture of Marines and Mauraders is very challenging to defeat, especially when adding some Medivac units as the war continues.

Banshee Rush

The last excellent early game attack Terran's can use is the Banshee Rush. Basically, the tactic is to produce Banshee's as quickly and early as possible and use them to destroy enemy troops. You should begin this strategy by quickly establishing a refinery and then concentrating on all the technology necessary to build Banshees. A major issue that you need to be on the alert for when trying the Banshee Rush is to hide it from the foe. If you're spied on and your enemy figures this out, then this tactic almost definitely will be ineffective. A great method to avoid this is to create a decoy, so that your opponent scouts see you erecting a building that is not in line with this strategy and then you can cancel the build.
