All in God's Time:
Patience Isn't Easy

Dear Mom:
There sure were a lot of things I would like to have done with you while I was still on earth. There just never seemed to be enough time.
Time sure is a funny thing. Never enough time to do the things you need to do. Never enough time to do the things you would like to do.
Time is so different in heaven. For instance, I know you will be here soon by heavenly time, but by earthly time you have lots more to do on earth. To give you an idea of what I mean, one day on earth is sort of like 1,000 years in heaven. On the other hand, 1,000 years on earth is like one day in heaven. I know this sounds confusing and contradictory, but that's how it is. Heavenly time is totally different than time on earth. Heavenly time is more like a dimension than a point of reference as people on earth tend to use it.
I believe this is one of the main reasons people don't think their prayers are being answered. People pray and then expect their prayers to be answered immediately by earthly standards. They don't account for the "time" difference between heaven and earth. In fact man, not God, came up with the concept of earth time to help him catalog his time on earth.
When God first set things up He had people living for hundreds of years. I think God adjusted the time people spend on earth partly because it was too long for people to endure. Can you image the extended family problems that must have existed then? There must have been a lot of heads that turned when someone called out, "Grandpa".
Getting back to unanswered prayer, you know that the Israelites prayed to God to be freed from Egyptian slavery. I'm sure it appeared to the first several generations of Israelite that God did not answer their prayers. God, however, did answer their prayers in what to God was hardly enough time to walk around the universe once four hundred or so earth years.
Even when God chose a man to lead the Israelites out of bondage, He waited forty earth years for the man to mature in Egypt and another forty earth years for the same man to mature in the desert. To God 80 years was hardly enough time for Moses to learn how to crawl, walk and run let alone lead God's chosen people out of Egypt. After 80 years, God still wasn't done with Moses. Moses then had to wonder in the desert another forty years with the Israelites before God let them enter the Promised Land all of course except Moses.
Anyway, all of this is to say that the next time someone tells you," All in God's time", don't be surprised if it takes a little longer than you expected it to.
Oh, and one final comment to unanswered prayer. Mom, sometimes God says no. It's not that He wants to hurt us. It's that He knows what we are praying for is not the best thing for us and out of His love for us He denies us our prayer for the greater good of His kingdom.
