Motorway Speeds

A recent poll has found that more than half of the people that use the motorways are not driving correctly, putting lives in danger and risking accidents.

Of nearly one thousand people polled by road safety charity Brake, it was revealed that nearly half are not leaving a big enough gap between themselves and the driver in front, and as many as sixty one percent of drivers are guilty of hitting speeds of over eight miles per hour, more than ten miles per hour over the speed limit on the motorways.

There is a forty percent greater chance of having an accident if you are driving at speed, and it is obvious that the faster you are going, the less control you have over your car, the longer the stopping distances are and the more likely you are to cause a fatality.

Brake campaigns director Julie Townsend said: ''You might think you're saving time, but if you speed on motorways you contribute to congestion, and increase your risk of a catastrophic crash. For every mile per hour you drive faster, you dramatically increase your stopping distance, impeding your ability to stop in a crisis. We have all experienced jams caused by motorway crashes, and we often try to bury the thought of the horrors that have occurred. Addressing motorway speeding is vital if we hope to tackle these violent deaths and life-shattering injuries. It's time we all acknowledged that speeding is not without its consequences and commit to sticking to limits on motorways.''

If you have an accident, your Car Insurance Quotes will be impacted and the next time you renew you will be looking at a much higher premium.
