subject: Popular Negril Attractions [print this page]

It is not for nothing that people have been traveling to Negril for many years. This Jamaican town has been a favorite destination for individuals, couples and entire families for decades. It has a comfortable laid-back atmosphere, relaxing white sandy beaches and native Jamaican culture that make it special.

Negril is divided into four different districts with no distinct center. What many people consider as its center is Sheffield Road, where you will find the police station as well as many restaurants and markets.

As a popular tourist destination, there is no shortage of taxis, and you will find most of them at Negril Square, which is located towards the south of Sheffield Road. This place, which also features many apparent tourist guides, is not always safe for tourists who are often targeted.

Towards the north is Red Ground, which is the main residential district. All the districts are surrounded by clean white beaches.

If you enjoy adventure then Rick's Cafe will be a good place for you. There is a diving slab from where you can take a leap into the Caribbean Sea. Even if that is not your passion, you will still have a good view of the sunset here.

Some of the water sports that you can take part in at Negril include snorkeling and scuba diving. If you do not have relevant skills, you are still not left out. You will still have a unique opportunity to observe what is taking place in the sea by enjoying a trip in a glass bottomed boat; get the chance to see tropical fish at close range.

Negril is one of the places where people can take part in nude swimming, and you will clearly know of this from the numerous signs stating: 'Swimsuits Optional'. This just shows the freedom you will find here, even if you mind such apparent extremes.

Apart from the stretches of white sandy beaches, Negril is also famous for its resorts. Some of the popular ones include: Couples, Hedonism II, Grand Lido and Sandals Negril. Negril has about 25 resorts that are just off the Seven Mile Beach. The Seven Mile Beach, which runs parallel to the main highway (Norman Manley Blvd) is made up of popular white sand beaches. If you prefer privacy, then the cliff area is better suited for you.

There are things to do in Negril be it day or night. If you would like to buy something that will help you remember your time here, there are different shopping destinations available. At the outskirts of the city is the tourist market, where there are many types of items that you can buy. You can also make your purchases at the shopping district.

One of the things that Jamaica is known for is reggae music, and there are many places where you can listen to this type of music as you enjoy traditional Jamaican dishes. And you can get some of the best dishes right from your hotel.
