Good as a reader - unable to clear Subaru computers though
I bought this unit specifically to read and 'erase' the DTC on my '99 Subaru Forester, and turn-off the MIL in the process. Retrieving the code (P0440) could not have been easier. It also took virtually no time at all to subsequently look up the code on the 'net for a detailed explanation of possible causes, troubleshooting tips, etc. The disappointing part of this purchase is the unit's inability to actually 'erase' the code and turn-off the MIL. It simply returns a 'Fail' message after each attempt. I called Tech Support and was informed that this unit will *not* erase the DTC on either a Subaru or a VW. No explanation as to 'why', just that it is not compatible. Obviously, if I had know this ahead of time, I would not have bought it. Nowhere in their literature does it list 'exceptions' to the 'Erase Button Turns Off "Check Engine" Light' feature. So, on the one hand, it did save me some time and money by not having to go to the dealer or a garage to find out the problem. But ultimately, for me anyhow, it did not work 100% as advertised, so it partially defeated the purpose of my purchasing it in the first place. Caveat Emptor I guess.
Simple, but not worth the price
It was simple to use, but you'd need a code guide to even tell what it was reading. You may as well pay a little more for one that can tell you what codes you're throwing
great code reader
the reader is great. the software that comes with it is worthless though. it asks questions about your problem, then just generates a report that has all the info that you just entered, NO repair advice. i just use the tool to get the codes, then look up the codes on the internet.

I'm not expert in these products, so take this with a grain of salt. However, I got this to run some diagnostics on a car whose check engine light came on and it seemed to work great. It's easy to use, the manual makes sense (and comes in 3 or 4 languages), and the diagnostics are helpful. All in all, this is a good product I think. I am rating this a 4, just because I don't feel like I've gotten to use it enough to know if it's a 5. However, so far I haven't seen anything wrong with it and it seems like a good product to me.
