Article Directories
Yes, they still work! Not in the same way they used to though. When this concept was new, you could write one article and get a flood of traffic to your site from the link you create. You won't be able to get a lot of direct traffic from article directories today but they will giveyou back links. Some of the bigger article directories will send you some traffic but that is not a whole lot. However if you are willing to spend some money and get featured on their high traffic pages, you can get a lot of warmed up traffic to your sites directly from the directory itself. ArticleBase, GoArticles and EzineArticles are particularly good in that area.
Article marketing with blogs
This is another great way to tackle article marketing. Not surprisingly, it has also been heavily abused. At its core, its actually more powerful than article directories. There are two ways to do this.
If you consider yourself to be an expert in your niche, then it would be a good idea to write guests posts on high traffic blogs in your area. You can insert an inline link back to your site into the article body and invite clicks. This is mutually beneficial for you as well as the owner of that blog/site. It is sometimes difficult to convince those site owners to this arrangement though.
The second way to do that is by simply using a program like SEO link vine or AMA to send out content to blogs in return for a back link. Even though its useless for direct traffic, it will literally sky rocket your seo.
