Throw your youngster a birthday party that boasts a fantastic baseball-theme

Baseball is one of the most beloved sports in the country - after all, it is America's pastime. And while baseball season may only take place from April to October, abaseball theme party is a great way to celebrate a youngster's birthday no matter what time of year it is.

Themedinvitations are a great way to get your child's friends excited for the birthday bash. The invites can feature pictures of baseballs and bats, or you can send out cards that look like tickets or resemble a scoreboard.

When filling out the invitations, however, you'll want to include more information than the standard date, time and location, such as details about appropriate attire. If they're going to be playing outside, advise the youngsters to wear sneakers and bring their own gloves.

When planning the party's activities, it's important to take the weather into consideration. If your child's birthday falls during the summer, organize a game of baseball in your backyard or at a local field. Talk to parents ahead of time to find out if kids have their own equipment. However, remember to have extra gloves on hand in case a child forgets his or her stuff at home.

Additionally, if you plan on taking the kids to a local field, check to see if there are picnic tables or an area to set-up food and drinks. If there isn't, ask parents to help transport the kids from the park to your house when it's time for cake and presents.

However, you don't need warm weather to throw a fantastic baseball-themedbirthday party. If it's cold or rainy on the day of the celebration, gather the kids together and put on a classic baseball movie, such as The Sandlot or Rookie of the Year. Fill the TV room with baseball-themeddecorations and serve snacks commonly found at ballparks, like hot dogs, cracker jacks and peanuts.

Whether kids will be playing indoors or out, stock-up on decorations for your dining room or kitchen - wherever the kids will gather to eat cake and open presents - to turn the space into a baseball wonderland. While you can use the sport as a general motif and opt forparty supplies that feature baseballs, bats and gloves, most kids have a favorite team. Pick-up paper plates, cups and napkins that boast your child's favorite team's logo.

If you can't find decorations that feature specific logos, looks for items in the team's colors. If the birthday boy or girl happens to love the Red Sox, stock up on red and navy streamers and balloons. If they prefer the White Sox, you can't go wrong with black and white party supplies.

Remember to send guests home with a few treats to thank them for celebrating your child's special day. Baseball cards and stickers are excellent party favors, as are baseball and bat-shaped key chains, as kids can hook the fun trinkets onto the zipper of the backpack.
