Early Reminiscences

When Neptune was in mid-heaven and Jupiter and Venus together in the horizon, in the sign of Scorpio with Sagittarius rising, I came into this world. It is said in esoteric teaching that one's life work is written in the heavens at the time of birth. This is the reason that the wise men were able to determine the birth of Jesus and to follow his star to find his place of birth. However it was not until about sixty-four years later that I learned how well I was fulfilling my life's work and that I was challenged to continue to its completion.

I grew up in a very loving family: my mother a farm girl and my father a city boy who chose to reject the tradition of his family to learn the lore of country living. City boys always amused my grandfather who found delight in laughing at their inexperience in farm activities. However, I seemed to learn those country ways early, as it has been told that when I was about two years old, my mother searched for me one day only to find me seated on the old farm tractor. She never did understand how I managed to reach the first level step that would allow me to that auspicious position. She only knew that to her continuous calls, she heard the faint answer, "Here tis", until she saw my then blonde hair sticking up above the driver's seat of the old idle tractor.

However it was not all farm activities that I so successfully accomplished, such as relating with the chickens. We had one horrendous picture of me screaming my head off as I sat in my walker in the yard where a few stray chickens had wandered. When I grew older, I fulfilled my duty of gathering eggs by arming myself with a broom and banging on the door of the chicken coop until all the hens left their nests and I could proudly collect the eggs without having to put my hand under them gently, as my grandfather wanted me to do. I can now imagine the chickens saying to one another, when they saw me coming: "Here comes that crazy one again. Get ready for a walk." What did not help the situation was a mean old rooster who would not only chase me, but also the dog. Many a time my grandmother laughed as I ran screaming into the house slamming the door behind me before my rooster pursuer could do whatever he planned on doing, if he ever caught up with me.
